Im Rahmen des Radioprogramms Every Time A Ear di Soun präsentieren die
documenta 14, Deutschlandfunk Kultur und SAVVY Contemporary SAVVY Funk,
ein Radioprojekt und offenes Archiv in Form eines Lese- und Hörraums
sowie eine Reihe von „Fußnoten“ der eingeladenen Künstler_innen.

SAVVY Contemporary wird für 22 Tage zu einem Radiosender, der
sich als offenes Studio und Plattform versteht und Audiomaterial und
Hör-Inhalte live produziert und sendet. SAVVY Funk, ein
24/7-Radioprogramm und -Kunstwerk, ist ein Raum für Hörexperimente,
neue Formen der Partizipation, Performativität und
erkenntnistheoretische Vielfalt. Als Projekt mit einer breiten Palette
von Praktiken und Sprachen, erkundet SAVVY Funk klangliche und auditive
Phänomene – Stimme, Geräusch, Musik und Sprache – als Medien, um
kontrahegemoniale Geschichten zu schreiben; reflektiert wird zudem, wie
durch Klang psychische und physikalische Räume geschaffen und
organisiert werden.
SAVVY Funk setzt auf die Kraft des Sounds und des Radios bei der
Ausgestaltung von Wissen und Aktion. Inspiriert von Frantz Fanon und
seiner Auffassung des Radios als Mittel des politischen Kampfs und des
Widerstands sowie von Rudolf Arnheims Aufruf, ausdrücklich die Dichter
„in die Funkstudios“ zu holen, hat das Projekt 18 Künstler_innen
eingeladen, das Radioprogramm zu gestalten. Die Künstler_innen haben
mit Studierenden der von Professor Nathalie Singer und Martin Hirsch
geleiteten Klasse für Experimentelles Radio an der Bauhaus-Universität
Weimar Formen der Zusammenarbeit entwickelt.
Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar stellt zudem ein offenes Archiv mit über
zweihundert Gegenständen zur Verfügung, das von Singers Privatsammlung
(darunter wichtige Buchpublikationen, Schallplatten und historische
Objekte aus der Frühzeit des Sendebetriebs und des Hörspiels) bis zu
dem digitalen Archiv für Radiokunst EXPA reicht, einem Projekt und
einer Ausstellungsreihe der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Besucher_innen
sind eingeladen, diese Sammlung von mehr als 7000 Audioarbeiten, die
über ein Jahrhundert Radio- und Audiokunstgeschichte umfasst, zu
durchstöbern und anzuhören. Am Klangarchiv für Audiokunst EXPA ist
SAVVY.doc, die offene Bibliothek von SAVVY Contemporary mit seltenen
Publikationen und Magazinen ebenso beteiligt wie Colonial Neighbours,
SAVVY Contemporarys dauerhaftes radikales und partizipatives Archiv zur
deutschen Kolonialgeschichte.
Zusätzlich zum Radioprogramm und dem Lese- und Hörraum stellt eine
Reihe von „Fußnoten“ in Form von Kunstwerken, Dokumenten, Videoarbeiten
und Hörstücken Überlegungen über die Macht des Hörens und die
poetischen und politischen Dimensionen des Klangs an. Neben den
Beiträgen der SAVVY Funk Künstler_innen präsentiert Rui Vilela seine
Recherchen über das guinea-bissauische Rádio Libertação, welches 1967
während der kolonialen Besetzung durch Portugal gegründet wurde und
eine wichtige Rolle spielt für die von Amílcar Cabral ins Leben
gerufene afrikanische Partei für die Unabhängigkeit von Guinea und den
Kapverden (PAIGC).
Diese Arbeiten, die sich über die Räume von SAVVY Contemporary
verteilen, sind mit den Strukturen des Sendestudios durch eine von Igor
Eskinja entworfene Raumintervention verknüpft. Besucher_innen des SAVVY
Funk sind eingeladen, in dieses vielschichtige Forschungsmaterial
einzutauchen, das Radio machen in vivo zu erleben und zugleich Akteure
in einer „einfallsreichen Partnerschaft zwischen Ausübenden und
Publikum zu werden“ (Seán Street, The Poetry of Radio: The Colour of Sound,
New York: Routledge, 2012).

Επί είκοσι δύο μέρες, το SAVVY Contemporary στο Βερολίνο
μεταμορφώνεται σε ραδιοφωνικό σταθμό που λειτουργεί ως ανοιχτό στούντιο
και πλατφόρμα όπου παράγεται και μεταδίδεται ηχητικό υλικό. Το SAVVY
Funk, εικοσιτετράωρο ραδιοφωνικό πρόγραμμα και έργο τέχνης, είναι μια
αίθουσα για ηχητικό πειραματισμό, νέες μορφές συμμετοχής, επιτέλεσης
και επιστημολογικής ποικιλότητας. Ως πρότζεκτ με ευρύ πεδίο πρακτικών
και γλωσσών, το SAVVY Funk εξερευνά το φαινόμενο της τονικότητας και
του ήχου –φωνές, ήχους, μουσικές και ομιλίες– ως μέσο για τη συγγραφή
αντιηγεμονικών ιστοριών· επίσης, εξερευνά το δυναμικό του ήχου για τη
δημιουργία και την οργάνωση ψυχικών και υλικών χώρων.
Το SAVVY Funk αντλεί από τη δύναμη του ήχου και του ραδιοφώνου να
διαμορφώνουν μορφές γνώσης και δράσης. Εμπνευσμένο από τον Frantz Fanon
και την αντίληψη που είχε για το ραδιόφωνο ως μέσο πολιτικού αγώνα και
αντίστασης, καθώς επίσης από την άμεση πρόσκληση του Rudolf Arnheim σε
ποιητές «στο ραδιοφωνικό στούντιο», το πρότζεκτ έχει προσκαλέσει
δεκαοκτώ καλλιτέχνες να σχεδιάσουν το ραδιοφωνικό πρόγραμμα. Οι
καλλιτέχνες αυτοί ανέπτυξαν μορφές συνεργασίας με φοιτητές του
μαθήματος Πειραματικού Ραδιοφώνου στο Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
(Πανεπιστήμιο Bauhaus στη Βαϊμάρη), υπό την καθοδήγηση των καθηγητών
Nathalie Singer και Martin Hirsch.
Το Bauhaus-Universität Weimar έχει επίσης συμβάλει με ένα ανοιχτό

ακρόασης και τις ποιητικές και πολιτικές διαστάσεις του ήχου. Πέρα από
τις συμμετοχές των καλλιτεχνών του SAVVY Funk, ο Rui Vilela παρουσιάζει
την έρευνά του για το ραδιόφωνο της Γουινέας-Μπισάου Rádio Libertação.

Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and SAVVY Contemporary present SAVVY Funk, a
radio project and open archive in the form of a reading and listening
room as well as a series of “footnotes” by invited artists.
SAVVY Funk
begins broadcasting at midnight on June 16, and remains on air until
July 8 on FM 103.0 MHz in Berlin, FM 90.4 MHz in Kassel, SW 15560 kHz,
and all over the world on documenta14.de.

For twenty-two days, SAVVY Contemporary in Berlin will be
transformed into a radio station, functioning as an open studio and
platform where audio material is produced live and broadcast. SAVVY
Funk, a 24/7 radio program and work of art, is a room for audio
experimentation, new forms of participation, performativity, and
epistemological diversity. As a project with a wide range of practices
and languages, SAVVY Funk explores tonal and auditory
phenomenon—voices, sounds, music, and speech—as media for writing
counter-hegemonic histories; it also reflects on the potential for
sound to create and organize psychic and physical spaces.
SAVVY Funk draws on the power of sound and radio to shape forms of
knowledge and action. Inspired by Frantz Fanon and his understanding of
radio as a medium of political struggle and resistance, as well as
Rudolf Arnheim’s call, explicitly to poets, to get “into the radio
studio,” the project has invited eighteen artists to design the radio
program. The artists developed forms of collaboration with students
from the Experimental Radio class at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar,
led by Professor Nathalie Singer and Martin Hirsch.
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has also contributed an open archive with
over 200 items, ranging from Singer’s private collection (including
important books, records, and historical objects dating from the early
days of broadcasting and radio drama) to the digital archive for radio
art EXPA, a project and exhibition series from the Bauhaus-Universität
Weimar. Visitors are invited to browse through and listen to this
collection of some 7,000 radio works spanning more than a century of
radio and audio art history. Part of the sound archives for audio art
EXPA includes SAVVY.doc, the open library from SAVVY Contemporary with
rare publications and magazines as well as Colonial Neighbours, SAVVY
Contemporary’s permanent, radical, and participatory archive for German
colonial history.
In addition to the radio program and the reading and listening room, a
series of “footnotes” in the form of artworks, documents, video works,
and audio pieces reflect on the power of listening and the poetic and
political dimensions of sound. Besides the contributions from SAVVY
Funk artists, Rui Vilela will present his research on the Guinea-Bissauan
Rádio Libertação. Established during the Portuguese colonial occupation
in 1967, it played a crucial role in the transmission of the ideas of
the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and the Cape Verde
(PAIGC), founded by Amícar Cabral.
These works, presented throughout the rooms of SAVVY Contemporary, are
connected to the structure of the radio studio through a spatial
intervention developed by Igor Eskinja.
Visitors to SAVVY Funk are invited to delve into this multi-layered
research material and experience radio in-the-making while becoming
actors in an “imaginative partnership between practitioners and
audience.” (Seán Street, The
